Collection: SHIBU UCHIWA FANS

Handcrafted in Kumamoto, Japan by Kurikawa Shoten—established in 1889 and the last remaining workshop carrying on the 400-year-old tradition of Kutami Uchiwa fan-making. Each fan is carefully constructed using slender bamboo ribs and coated Japanese washi paper, then finished with layers of kakishibu—natural persimmon tannin. This age-old method strengthens the paper, provides natural insect resistance, and allows the fan to develop a rich, earthy patina over time.

Once used as lucky charms symbolizing prosperity and good fortune, these long-lasting fans are still gifted today for meaningful milestones—births, weddings, anniversaries, and beyond.
