Nature, Reimagined in Paper

Paper Botanicals explores the familiar forms of the natural world through cut, shaped, and sculpted paper. Handcrafted by CEDAR Y SAND in our East Hampton studio, each composition begins with an original Suminagashi marbled ground, its fluid patterns providing an organic backdrop for dimensional paper forms.

Botanical subjects are individually constructed by hand, with carefully cut elements gently shaped and layered to create subtle depth, texture, and shadow. From delicate blossoms to sculptural grasses and field forms, each design becomes a small study in observation and material.

Because every Suminagashi background is individually marbled and each paper element is assembled by hand, no two compositions are ever exactly alike.

Part of Suminagashi Springs, Paper Botanicals brings together the movement of traditional Japanese marbling with contemporary paper artistry—small works of nature made for words meant to linger.
