Handcrafted in Kumamoto, Japan, this Shibu Uchiwa fan from Kurikawa Shoten—founded in 1889—preserves a 400-year-old tradition of Kutami fan-making. Made from slender bamboo strips and washi paper coated in natural kakishibu (persimmon tannin), it provides natural insect resistance and allows the fan to develop a rich, earthy patina over time.
Originally used to gently extinguish votive lights at temples, this timeless fan now tucks easily into bags and is perfect for everyday cooling. Lightweight, fold-free, and elegant in form—it’s a refined companion for warm days, and a meaningful gift with historic roots.
