Crimson Tides in Stillness
Gathered from the shoreline of Sammys Beach in East Hampton, this vivid ruby-red seaweed has been hand-pressed and preserved in a horizontal composition that echoes the quiet rhythm of coastal waters. Mounted over dusty sand suminagashi-marble paper, the flow of the ink mimics the ebb and sway of tidepools—adding depth, motion, and a soft graphic stillness.
Where Nature Meets Artisan Technique
Every background in our Pressed by the Sea series is made using suminagashi, a centuries-old Japanese marbling method known as “floating ink.” This naturalistic backdrop pairs beautifully with each seaweed specimen, whose shape, color, and structure are preserved through a careful hand-pressing process in our studio. Each finished piece is a poetic blend of marine flora and modern design.
Mounted & Ready to Frame
This artwork is professionally matted to 14" x 11" with an image window of 9½" x 6½", in a landscape orientation. Archival, gallery-white mat board ensures the piece is ready to drop into any standard frame. Every composition is hand-assembled at our East Hampton studio, and no two are alike.
A Moment from the Shoreline
Part of the Suminagashi Impressions series within our broader Suminagashi Springs collection, Sammys Beach Ruby II invites quiet contemplation. Ideal for those drawn to coastal landscapes, marine biology, or minimalist naturalism—this is art that captures a moment in tide and time.
