Feathered Stillness from the Tidal Meadow
Collected at low tide from the inlets of Gerard Point in East Hampton, this specimen captures the soft sway and nested texture of olive-toned marine flora. Its shape resembles a drifting plume or underwater featherbed—delicate, airy, and quietly rooted in place. Pressed and preserved by hand, the composition floats on a background of pale mint and ivory suminagashi, echoing the tide’s retreat through rhythmic ink whorls.
Where Nature Meets Artisan Technique
Each backdrop in our Pressed by the Sea series is created using suminagashi, a centuries-old Japanese marbling method meaning “floating ink.” This traditional process allows natural water patterns to emerge in flow with the specimen itself. Each seaweed is carefully gathered, pressed, and placed with an artist’s eye—preserving both its form and story.
Mounted & Ready to Frame
This artwork is professionally matted to 12" x 16" with an image window of 8½" x 11½", in a vertical orientation. Gallery-white archival mat board ensures the piece is ready to drop into any standard frame. Hand-assembled at our East Hampton studio, each piece is entirely unique—no two are alike.
A Moment from the Shoreline
Part of the Suminagashi Impressions series within our Suminagashi Springs collection, Gerard Point’s Sea Meadow offers a moment of peaceful reflection. Ideal for collectors of coastal or naturalist art, it invites the viewer to pause—like the tide waiting to return.

FAQ
FAQ
Q: Is the seaweed real?
A: Yes! Each piece in our Pressed by the Sea series features actual marine flora hand-collected from local shorelines around East Hampton, NY. No reproductions, no prints—just the real textures of the tides, preserved by hand.
Q: What is suminagashi paper?
A: Suminagashi means “floating ink,” a Japanese marbling technique that dates back centuries. We create each background by gently floating ink on water, then transferring it to paper. The resulting patterns mimic the motion of tides—making each backdrop completely one of a kind.
