A Botanical from the Bays of Springs
Collected near Albert’s Landing in Springs, East Hampton, this delicate Dumontia seaweed was carefully hand-pressed and preserved on our signature hand-marbled suminagashi paper. Its fine, branching fronds evoke underwater movement even in stillness—like a botanical tide held in time.
Tide-Washed Paper Meets Native Flora
Each background is individually marbled in a soft, sandy peach tone using the Japanese technique of suminagashi, where ink drifts and swirls across water before being transferred to paper. This natural backdrop mirrors the shallow bay floor, setting the stage for Dumontia’s striking red-brown silhouette—a reminder of what the eye might catch just beneath the tide.
Matted & Ready to Frame
Every piece in the Pressed by the Sea series is mounted in an off white archival mat (14 x 11") with an image window of 9 1/2 x 6 1/2", making it easy to frame and display. Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this piece blends coastal science with quiet artistry.
A Gift from the Local Tidepools
