A Season, Held a Little Longer

Crafted by CEDAR Y SAND in our East Hampton studio, Late Meadow brings together hand-gathered and pressed botanicals with the fluid movement of traditional Suminagashi. Each piece begins with thick watercolor paper, individually marbled by hand as ink floats across water, creating an organic pattern that can never be repeated.

Over this one-of-a-kind ground, flowers, grasses, seed heads, and field botanicals gathered in East Hampton are individually pressed, selected, and composed by hand. Tall stems rise independently across the marbled surface, preserving the irregular rhythms and quiet structure of a meadow nearing the end of its season.

Gathered, Pressed & Composed by Hand

Part of the Gathered Impressions collection within our Suminagashi Impressions series, each work explores the meeting of two fleeting processes: the spontaneous movement of marbled ink and the seasonal character of gathered flora.

Late Meadow takes a quieter, more linear approach to the botanical composition. Grasses, faded blooms, seed heads, and delicate stems are allowed their own space against a warm neutral Suminagashi ground, recalling a field transitioning from the fullness of summer toward autumn.

Every botanical element was gathered and pressed by hand in East Hampton, NY. Variations in color, form, and texture are inherent to the natural materials, while the Suminagashi beneath them exists only once. The finished work is an original, one-of-one composition.
